Who am i® coach - IDENTITY COACHING FOR TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS
They Need More Than Good Grades.
FOR PARENTS - TEACHERS - GUARDIANS
"You already know something's missing. Here's what it is - and what you can do about it"
THE HONEST TRUTH
School Measures What They Know. Nobody's Measuring Who They're Becoming.
Exams. Grades. Predicted results. The education system is brilliant at measuring academic performance. But identity - knowing who you are, what you stand for, where you're headed - that's not included in any curriculum or syllabus.
And without it, even the highest achievers can feel completely lost. Because achievement without identity is just performance. And performance without a self to stand on eventually runs out of road.
That's the gap Who Am I Coach exists to close.
Mood swings that go beyond typical teenage behaviour - a young person who seems like a different person depending on who they're with.
Withdrawal, low confidence or a growing inability to make decisions without external validation.
Pressure from social media, peers and academic expectations - with no real anchor or sense of self to fall back on.
A young person who's drifting - not in crisis, but not thriving either. Just....going through the motions.
The sense that they're performing a version of themselves rather than actually living as themselves.
If any of this sounds familar, identity coaching could be exactly what's needed.
WHAT YOU'RE PROBABLY SEEING
These aren't attitude problems. They're identity gaps.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Identity is the Foundation. Everything Else is Built On It.
Erik Erikson - one of the most respected psychologists in identity development - identified that the teenage years are the critical window for figuring out who you are. Get through it with a strong, grounded sense of self? That foundation shapes everything: relationships, resilience, decision-making, purpose.
James Marcia's research went even further - showing that identity isn't something that just happens. It has to be actively explored and committed to. Many young people are stuck in what Marcia called identity diffusion or foreclosure - either avoiding the question of who they are entirely or adopting an identity that belongs to someone else.
That's not a phase. that's a gap that needs addressing - with the right support, at the right time. The earlier identity work begins, the stronger the foundation they build their whole life on.
"Get through it confused about who you are? That confuston doesn't stay in the teenage years. It follows them into adulthood."

Self-Knowledge That Sticks
They understand who they actually are beneath the performance = their values, their instincts, the parts of themselves that gets drowned out by everyone else's noise.
Language For What They're Feeling
Most young people are navigating identity confusion with zero vocabulary for it. Coaching gives them the framework and the words to understand and articulate what's going on inside.
A Stable Sense of Self
An identity that holds up under pressure - in friendships, online, under academic stress. Not rigid, but grounded. A self they can actually stand on when things get tough.
Clearer Direction
When you know who you are, decisions get easier. Choices about relationships, education and future direction start coming from a place of self-knowledge rather than drift or pressure.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
What Identity Coaching Does For Your Young Person
Every session is 1:1, online and confidential. Here's what young people actually walk away with:
Important to know: Identity coaching is not therapy or counselling. It is focused forward-moving work on identity development. If your young person is experiencing a mental health condition, please seek support from a qualified mental health professional. Coaching works best alongisde - not instead of - clinical support where it's needed.
WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR
You're In the Right Place If You're....
Who Am I Coach works with young people directly - but it's adults who often open the door. Here's how each of you fits in.
A Parent or Guardian
YOU SEE IT EVERY DAY
You live with the withdrawal, the mood shifts, the identity confusion. You want to help but you're not always sure how to reach them. You don't need to have the answers. You just need to open the door. Booking their free session is the first step - and it costs nothing.
A Teacher or Head of Year
YOU SEE IT IN THE CLASSROOM
You've got students drifting through sixth form or college with no real sense of who they are or where they are headed. Pastoral care has it's limits. Identity coaching fills the gap that schools can't - focused structured evidence based support that goes beyond what any PHSE lesson can offer.
A Mentor or Youth Worker
YOU'RE ALREADY IN THEIR CORNER
You know this young person has potential - but something's holding them back. Identity confusion often sits at the root of underperformance, disengagement and poor decision-making. Coaching gets to that root and gives them something solid to build from.
YOUR PART IN THIS
You Open the Door. They Do the Work.
You don't need to understand every detail of identity development theory. You don't need to have the right words. Your role is simple - and it matters more than you know.
The fact that you're here, looking for the right support, already puts you ahead. Most young people going through identity confusion don't have an adult in their corner actively trying to help. You are that adult.
Here's how it works from your end:
1.
Book the Free Session - Takes two minutes. No card details. No commitment beyond the young person showing up.
2.
Let Them Show Up As They Are - No prep needed. No briefing. The session meets them exactly where they are.
3.
Trust the Process - Sessions are confidential. That's what makes them work. You'll see the difference - you don't need a debrief to notice it.
4.
Decide Together What's Next - After the free session, the young person and the coach will discuss whether to continue. No pressure. No hard sell.
Your Questions. Straight Answers
Will my young person actually engage with this?
Most young people who come to a session - even reluctantly - engage. Why? Because this is about them. Not their grades. Not their behaviour. Them. That lands differently than most adult-led interventions.
Can I find out what was discussed in the session?
Sessions are confidential between the coach and the young person. This is non-negotiable - and it's exactly what makes the work effective. Trust is the foundation. Without it, there's no real conversation.
Is this suitable if they're already seeing a therapist?
Identity coaching and therapy serve two different purposes and can work alongside each other. Always check with the therapist first if there are active mental health concerns. We're happy to discuss this before booking.
What if they refuse to engage after the first session?
That's their choice, and it's respected. Coaching only works when someone is ready to engage. The free session is a no-pressure way to find out if the timing is right - without any financial risk..
Can I book for a student if I'm a teacher?
Yes - with parental consent in place for under - 18s. Get in touch to discuss how this works in a school or college context, including any group referral arrangements.
WE'VE HEARD IT ALL
Here are the things adults most often want to know before booking.
Do you offer group coaching sessions?
Yes - use contact form to get in touch to discuss custom-designed group identity coaching programmes and group events held at schools and colleges
